The US District Court in Texas granted a preliminary injunction against the new Department of Labor minimum salary requirement. The new salary requirement for exempt employees was going to increase to $47,476 per year or $913 per week.
Due to a lawsuit being filed by 21 states and more than 50 business groups, that rule has been blocked for now. There will most likely be further hearings and arguments presented about this matter, but there is a lot of opposition to the rule.
The impact for California employers is that the minimum salary requirement for exempt employees will remain at $41,600/year for 2016. In 2017 this will increase to $43,680 only for those employers with 26 or more employees.
